WINGNUTS DOWN REDHAWKS

The Wichita Wingnuts wrapped up a 4-1 homestand with a 7-3 win over the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks Sunday afternoon at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Fargo grabbed an early lead for the second straight game, plating a pair of unearned runs in the second. Wichita pulled one back in the home half on an RBI single by Brent Dean, but the visitors answered with another unearned run in the next half inning to restore the two-run margin. The Wingnuts grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fourth. A pair of groundouts by Leo Vargas and Tyler Urps tied it for Wichita, before a two-out single by Richard Prigatano gave the home team a 4-3 lead. The Wingnuts added three more in the next frame, starting with a solo homer by Brent Clevlen, who now leads the club with seven home runs and 23 RBIs. Harrison Kain doubled in another run later in the frame, and Dean then added his second RBI of the contest with a sacrifice fly. The Wichita bullpen took it from there, with the trio of Chase Johnson, Chad Nading, and Jesse Pratt working four scoreless frames to seal the win.

WHAT A RELIEF

The Wingnuts bullpen really shined over the last homestand, culminating in the four scoreless frames thrown yesterday by the trio of Chase Johnson, Chad Nading, and Jesse Pratt. The right-handed trio allowed three hits in their four innings, while each striking out a pair of RedHawks. Wichita relievers combined to throw 16.0 innings over the five-game homestand, yielding just one run. In those 16.0 innings, the relief corps allowed 16 hits and three walks, while racking up 18 strikeouts. This five-game run has also lowered the Wingnuts bullpen's season ERA from 4.67 down to 4.04

NEXT UP: LAREDO

The Wingnuts hit the road today to begin a three-game series down at Uni-Trade Stadium in Laredo for the first of three trips to face the Lemurs. Laredo enters the series with a half game lead over the Wingnuts in the South Division standings. These two division rivals have met once already this season, splitting a four-game series back at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium from May 30 to June 2. Wichita enters the set having won 10 of their last 12.
