Wichita Wingnuts News Release
TEXAS EVENS SERIES
The Wichita Wingnuts saw their three-game winning streak come to an end Saturday night, falling 4-2 to the Texas AirHogs at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Texas struck first, plating a run in the opening inning. Cory Morales reached on a dropped third strike, and scored on a two-out run-producing single by Devon Rodriguez. The Wingnuts evened the score in the second, as T.J. Mittelstaedt and Harrison Kain each doubled to tie it at one. The AirHogs regained the lead in the fourth, taking advantage of an error to score two unearned runs with two outs. Kenny Peoples-Walls plated the first run with a triple, then came around on an RBI single by Brian Bistagne. Wichita got back within a run in the fifth, as Leo Vargas scored on an RBI ground out by Zack Cox. The AirHogs restored the two-run margin in the ninth, as Rodriguez doubled in his second run of the evening. The Wingnuts best chance late in the game came in the seventh, as they started the inning with back-to-back singles. However, a double play helped Texas snuff out that scoring chance and even the weekend series at a game apiece.
GROUNDING THE AIRHOGS
Despite falling 4-2 last night, the Wingnuts got a solid effort from their pitching staff which only allowed one earned run on the night. Tim Brown was saddle with the loss, allowing three runs in five innings, but none of the runs were earned, with his own error in the fourth leading to a pair of unearned runs that ended up being the difference in the game. Behind the veteran righty, four Wichita relievers worked an inning apiece and allowed a total of one run, with a ninth inning tally all Texas could muster against the Wingnuts relief corps. That ninth inning tally is the only earned run charged against the Wingnuts staff in this series.
BACK TO BOSHERS
After silencing the St. Paul Saints to earn his 11th win of the year five days ago, right-hander Alex Boshers will get the ball today for Wichita as they try to claim their series from Texas. Boshers is 2-1 so far against the AirHogs this year, having beaten them twice on the road, and lost the only time he faced them at home. In his three starts against Texas, Boshers has allowed seven earned runs in 20.1 innings.
