Wichita Wingnuts News Release

Wichita Wingnuts at Sioux City Explorers American Association Division Series Game 2 (Explorers lead series 1-0) RHP Alex Boshers (12-3, 3.29) vs. LHP Cody Forsythe (11-5, 4.38) 7:00 p.m. - Mercy Field at Lewis & Clark Park

X'S WALK-OFF IN EXTRAS

The Wichita Wingnuts fell in 10 innings in game one of their Division Playoff Series with the Sioux City Explorers 6-5 last night at Mercy Field at Lewis & Clark Park. Sioux City struck first, plating a run three batters into their half of the first. The X's added two more in the fourth before Wichita broke through in the fifth. Nick Van Stratten got the Wingnuts on the board with an RBI double, and Martin Medina then singled which brought in a pair, thanks in part to a Sioux City error. One out later, Christian Stringer gave Wichita the lead, singling two more in to put the visitors in front 5-3. Sioux City had an answer in the home half, getting a run closer on a double play. Michael Lang then tied it with one of his four hits in the sixth, an RBI single. The bullpens took over on both sides for much of the rest of the evening, with the Wichita relief corps stepping up to retire 10 straight after Lang's tying single. With one out in the 10th, Tommy Mendonca doubled to left, putting the winning run on for the X's. Ino Patron then followed with a bloop single to give Sioux City the first game of the best-of five series.

MISSED OPPORTUNITIES

The Wingnuts had several chances to score outside of their five-run fifth, but stranded 15 on base for the night, more than they left on base during any game during the regular season. Wichita's first chance to score came in the first inning, but they left runners on second and third. The best chance of the night for the Wingnuts to score outside of the fifth came in the third, as they loaded the bases with no outs. However, Bryan Escanio retired the next three in order to keep Wichita off the board. The Wingnuts also loaded the bases with two down in the ninth, but were once again turned away, this time by Rob Wort. For the night, eight of the 15 left on base were left in scoring position.

BOSHERS ON THE MOUND

To try and even this series at a game apiece, Wichita will send righty Alex Boshers to the hill tonight. Boshers tied for the league lead in wins this year with 12, and had the seventh-lowest ERA among qualifiers at 3.29. Since inserting him into the rotation in early June, Wichita is 13-3 when Boshers takes the mound as the starting pitcher.
