Windy City Beats Raptors 905 99-91, Heads into All-Star Break Strong

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL - The Windy City Bulls, presented by BMO Harris Bank, the NBA G League affiliate of the Chicago Bulls, grabbed their third consecutive win in a 99-91 victory over the Raptors 905 on Tuesday night at Sears Centre Arena.

All five Windy City starters scored in double figures led by Antonio Blakeney who poured in a game-high 30 points. Jaylen Johnson scored 16 points, while Ryan Arcidiacono and Cristiano Felicio tallied double-doubles. Arcidiacono recorded 11 points and 14 assists, two shy of his career-high, and Felicio posted his sixth double-double of the season scoring 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jarell Eddie pitched in with 11 points of his own.

The 905 scored the opening basket of the game to take an early lead, but the Bulls responded with seven quick points of their own and led 7-2 in the opening three minutes of the contest. Johnson had the hot hand early and led all players with in the first quarter. The Raptors cut the lead to two at the 6:01 mark, but with an 9-3 Windy City spurt, the Bulls were ahead by eight and went up by as many as 12 in the first period. The Bulls held the 905 to 29 percent shooting and led 27-16 at the end of the first stanza.

Six players scored in double figures for the 905 led by Fuquan Edwin who scored a team-high 23 points in a reserve role. Windy City Bulls alum, Alfonzo McKinnie, tallied 14 points in his return to Hoffman Estates, while Kennedy Meeks posted 14 points and 11 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the season. Aaron Best added 13 points with Davion Berry and Kaza Keane scoring 10 points apiece.

Windy City managed to create separation in second quarter and scored the first four points of the period to double up the 905, 32-16. The Bulls took full control and used a Blakeney three-point shot to grab their first 20-point advantage of the night. Windy City stretched the lead to 23, which was their largest of the night. For the second consecutive quarter, the Bulls held the 905 to under 39 percent shooting and capitalized by making six of their nine three-point attempts on the offensive end. In the second quarter, Windy City outscored the Raptors 905 by nine and lead 52-32 at the intermission.

The 905 came out of the locker room strong and went on an extended run to start the second half. They opened the period on a 17-0 run to make it a one possession game. The Bulls went scoreless for the first five minutes of the quarter before Eddie knocked in a pull-up jumper to stop the drought. On the ensuing possession, the 905 knocked in a three-point jump shot to make it a two-point game, but the Bulls responded with 16-8 run of their own and led by 10 with 1:31 left in the third. Despite being outscored 30-22 in the period, Windy City walked away with a 74-62 lead heading into the final 12 minutes.

The Bulls kept the 905 at bay and lead by double figures for the first half of the first quarter. Trailing 86-71 with under six minutes in the game, the Raptors made one final run. On the strength of an 11-2 run, the 905 made it a six-point game with 3:07 remaining but were unable to draw closer. Mychal Mulder poured in a three-point shot to extend the lead to double figures once more, and Windy City held on for their 16th victory of the season.

Tuesday's win was the first time Windy City has beaten the 905 in franchise history. Prior to the eight-point win, the Bulls were 0-6 against the 905.

Windy City will enjoy an eight-day layoff as part of the NBA All-Star festivities that kick-off this weekend. The Bulls will be back in action next Wednesday against the Erie BayHawks for Education Day. Tip-off is 10:00 a.m. at Sears Centre Arena.
