Wilmer Font Named Pitcher of the Week in the Can-Am League

Ottawa, ON - The Can-Am League announced that RHP WILMER FONT has been named Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week with his last two performances against the Trois-Rivières Aigles and the New Jersey Jackals.
Font, 26, was tremendous in his start against Trois-Rivières, June 21st, with 10 strikeouts in eight innings pitched. He also allowed three unearned runs on three hits and one walk.
Font has recurred with another shining start, June 26th, against the New Jersey Jackals at Yogi Berra Stadium. In seven innings, he allowed only one run on six hits, striking four on the way to a 4 to 1 win in extra innings.
The La Guaira, Venezuela native is now the League Leader in strikeouts since the beginning of the season with 54. New Jersey Jackals' pitcher, Brian Ernst follows him with 49 strikeouts.
Font's Pitcher of the Week award is the third in Champions history and second for a pitcher. Kenny Bryant had the Player of the Week award in the beginning of June. Last July, pitcher Drew Granier received the Pitcher of the Week award.
The Champions open up a six-game homestand on Tuesday starting with three games against the Shikoku Island All-Stars, followed by three against the Sussex County Miners, including a doubleheader on Canada Day.
