Rochester Knighthawks News Release

(April 24, 2017)... The Rochester Knighthawks announced today that they will induct Shawn Williams into the team's Hall of Fame on Friday, April 28. The Knighthawks' all-time assist leader will become the 16th member of the prestigious club.

"It's a huge honor to be recognized by such a storied franchise," he said. "I am very grateful and excited at the same time."

The forward spent 10 seasons (2002 to 2011) in Rochester and was a three-time captain. His impact is evident in the franchise's record book, where he ranks first in assists (492), and second in goals (309) and points (801). He also stands third in games played with 160. He was also named an All-Pro twice (2004 and 2007), and in 2010 he received the league's Sportsmanship Award.

"Willy" was dependable and someone the team could depend on in the clutch.

"Everything he said he backed up with his actions," said former teammate and current Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen. "He had a knack for getting the guys up and ready. He was always making sure we were good to go."

Williams' impact can also be judged by the team's success. During his time in the teal and purple, Rochester earned nine postseason berths and two trips to the NLL Finals. In 2007, he was instrumental in bringing a second Champion's Cup to Rochester.

"We had a lot of great teams over the years and we thought every year we could make a run for it," said Williams. "Obviously, it happening in '07 was very special."

The Scarborough, Ontario native played 17 seasons (1998-2014) in the NLL and suited up for Rochester, Buffalo, Toronto, Ontario and Edmonton. Williams won two Champion's Cups, earning his first with the Rock in 1999 and his last with the Knighthawks in 2007.

His offensive numbers place him among the league's all-time greats, as he stands eighth in goals (444), sixth in assists (708), seventh in points (1,152), and fourth in games played (257). Williams also owns the second longest "Iron Man" streak in NLL history, playing in 230 consecutive games.

On Friday, Rochester will honor Williams for the dedication and commitment to the organization.

"Willy was a superstar, a great player and a great team guy," said Knighthawks VP of Player Personnel Jody Gage. "He was an important part of our success; he brought it every night."
