Wildcats Trade MacEwen to Gatineau

Moncton Wildcats News Release

MONCTON N.B. - The Moncton Wildcats have traded forward Zack MacEwen to the Gatineau Olympiques for a fifth round pick in the 2017 QMJHL Entry Draft.

MacEwen was signed by Moncton as a free agent at eighteen years old out of Junior A with the Amherst Ramblers of the MHL. Last season marked his first full year with the Wildcats, appearing in 66 regular season games and 17 playoff games. During the 2015-2016 season Zack most definitely became an impact player as the season progressed, and was a key piece during playoffs, recording 40 points in the regular season and another 8 in the post-season.

" Zach was great for us last season, had a terrific playoff run, and was a key member of our team, unfortunately there are only 54 spots in the league for twenty year old players, and only three on each team" said Director of Hockey Operations Roger Shannon. "We would have loved to given Zack one of those spots, however, we want to ensure he gets a chance to play as a twenty year old in the league. We wish him all the best in Gatineau, a team that will remember him well from the 2016 playoffs, good luck Zack!"

The Wildcats will be hosting the Hub City Showcase next weekend at the Superior Propane Centre from August 19th-21st. All six Maritime Division teams will be competing in this event, with the best rookies from this year and last year's drafts going head-to-head. For tickets call (506) 382-5555. Wildcats training camp will officially begin on August 23rd.
