South Georgia Wildcats News Release

The Delmarva Shorebirds defeated the Greensboro Bats 2-0 at Perdue Stadium in front of 4,055 on a cool and breezy Saturday night. The win snaps a three-game losing streak and moves the club to 22-20 on the year.

Shorebird starter David Crouthers (3-2) was the story of the contest as he dominated the Bats from start to finish. The right-hander, last losing on April 10th, pitched a two-hit shutout through eight, while recording five strikeouts. At one point in the game he set down ten consecutive and retired 12 of the final 13 he faced. Greensboro managed to get just one base runner into scoring position as Shelly Duncan was at third with two out in the fifth.

Meanwhile, the 'Birds offense gave Crouthers just enough as Delmarva took a 1-0 lead in the third on a two-out, RBI double from Tripper Johnson. The 'Birds added another in the sixth; going up 2-0 on a sacrifice fly RBI from recently re-activated Omar Rogers. The Shorebirds second baseman was taken off the DL prior to the contest, where he had been for four weeks with a strained left hamstring.

Delmarva reliever Rommie Lewis (6) hurled a perfect ninth to complete the shutout win. Five different 'Birds recorded hits to lead the way offensively.

The Beach Boys are coming to Perdue Stadium! One of the greatest bands in American music history will be in Salisbury in July 6th. For reservations call the box office at (410) 219-3112.

NOTES:

· Delmarva announced roster moves prior to the game. Relievers D.J. Jones, Brad Rogers and catcher Tommy Arko were all optioned to extended spring training. Pitcher Sendy Rleal and second baseman Omar Rogers were taken off the DL and placed back on the active roster. The 'Birds also added catcher Tom McGee who was optioned from Bowie.

· Crouthers has allowed just five earned runs in his last 32 and one-third innings of work (1.40 E.R.A.).
