South Georgia Wildcats News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, NC- The Cape Fear Wildcats arenafootball2 team has been assigned af2 veteran Troy Esprit.

Esprit, 6-foot-2 190, enters his third af2 season after stints with the Pensacola Barracudas and the Macon Knights. He scored six touchdowns in six games with the Barracudas in 2000 and spent last season as the Offensive Specialist in Macon, where Wildcats head coach Chris Siegfried was the offensive coordinator last year. Esprit was the leading receiver for the Knights’ fifth-ranked offense with 79 receptions for 1,079 yards and 25 touchdowns in 16 games. Last year’s Macon team was named af2 Expansion Team of the Year and is the only expansion team in league history to make the playoffs.

“Troy is a proven player, and he knows the game,” Siegfried said. “He played Offensive Speicalist in Macon last year, but he’s a very capable defender. We plan on using him on both offense and defense.”

Esprit has 105 receptions and 31 touchdowns in 22 career af2 games. He played two games at WR/DB and had two interceptions for the Knights last year. He once intercepted five passes in one game in high school and went on to play two years at Grambling under legendary head coach Eddie Robinson.

The Wildcats open their inaugural season April 6 at Norfolk and will play eight regular-season home games at the Cumberland County Crown Coliseum. Season tickets start at just $48 and are on sale now. For more information call (910) 222-WILD or visit CATSFOOTBALL.COM. Catch the Fever!
