Saint Paul, MN - Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher announced on Thursday the National Hockey League (NHL) club has recalled defenseman Jonas Brodin (YOH-nuhs, BROH-deen) from the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Brodin, 19 (7/12/93), collected four points (2-2=4) in nine games with Houston this season. He notched eight assists, 14 penalty minutes (PIM) and a plus-6 rating in 49 games with Farjestads in Sweden's Elite League last season. Brodin helped Sweden win the gold medal at 2012 World Junior Championship, tallying four assists and in six games. He also skated in seven contests for Sweden at the 2012 World Championship and collected one goal. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound native of Karlstad, Sweden tallied four assists in 42 games with Farjestads in 2010-11 and finished fourth on the team with a plus-6 rating. Brodin added two goals in 14 playoff games to help Farjestads claim the Swedish Championship. He notched one assist in four games as Sweden claimed a silver medal at the 2011 Under-18 World Championship.
Brodin was selected by Minnesota with the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He will wear sweater #25 with the Wild.
Houston continues a five-game road trip on Friday at 6 p.m. in Grand Rapids against the Griffins. The team returns to Toyota Center after the All-Star break, hosting Texas on Friday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
