Clinton LumberKings News Release

Beloit, WI - The Clinton LumberKings rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the eighth to send the game to extra innings, but the Beloit Snappers ultimately claimed victory as Aaron Hicks reached on a walk, moved to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 11th.

Tied 3-3 in the 11th, Hicks drew a leadoff walk from lefty Jose Jimenez, then stayed put at first base as Jimenez (L, 0-1) fanned Brian Dozier and Steven Liddle. With Angel Morales at the plate, Hicks stole second and then headed to third on a throwing error by catcher Steven Baron. Jimenez narrowly missed a strikeout of Morales, then bounced a 2-2 slider in the dirt that kicked to the right of Baron, sending Hicks home.

The LumberKings had rallied from the three-run deficit thanks to the bat of Baron. Following a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Mario Martinez that cut the deficit to 3-1, Baron ripped a Dakota Watts pitch to the gap in left-center for a double, scoring Kalian Sams and James Jones.

Beloit had built a 3-0 lead on right-hander Taylor Stanton, getting a solo home run from Hicks in the third inning and adding a two-run homer from Morales in the fourth. Stanton exited after five, yielding three runs on five hits while striking out five.

Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez, making his U.S. debut, contributed 2.0 scoreless innings to the Clinton cause. Lefty Brian Moran tossed 3.0 scoreless innings to keep the game tied through the 10th.

Beloit starter Tom Stuifbergen scattered five hits and struck out seven over 5.0 innings. Righty Ben Tootle allowed all three Clinton runs, and left-hander Matt Tone (W, 1-1) earned the victory with 2.0 scoreless innings.

Baron and Martinez each finished 2-for-4 for the LumberKings. The two-RBI game was Baron's first multi-RBI showing this season.

The LumberKings (5-5) and Snappers (5-5) continue the series with day baseball at Pohlman Field tomorrow, first pitch scheduled for 2:00 PM. Left-hander Jimmy Gillheeney (1-1, 5.19) makes his third start of the season. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN or www.lumberkings.com.
