WILD EDGES MONSTERS 3-2 IN SHOOTOUT

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Wild (6-6-2-0, 14 points) defeated the Cleveland Monsters (5-4-3-0, 13 points) 3-2 in the shootout in front of 4,441 fans Sunday night at Wells Fargo Arena.

After trailing by two, Iowa came back in the second period, scoring a set of goals to tie the game. After a scoreless third and overtime periods, Iowa forward Sam Anas recorded the eventual game-winner in the shootout.

The Wild have won three in a row for the first time this season, bringing their record back to .500.

Forward Landon Ferraro, as well as defenseman Zach Plamquist each scored their first goals of the season in the win over the team's division rival, and Wild goalie Niklas Svedberg made 26 saves.

Forward Sam Vigneault gave Cleveland a 1-0 lead when he opened the scoring during a delayed penalty at 8:29 of the first period. On the play, defenseman Brady Austin passed the puck from the left point to defenseman Dean Kukan at the top of the right-wing circle. Kukan shot the puck, and Vigneault tipped it in from the left side for his second goal of the year. The Monsters outshot the Wild 11-3 in the first 20 minutes of the game.

At 14:20 of the second period, Cleveland center Jordan Schroeder snapped a wrist shot from the low slot for his second goal of the season, extending his team's lead to 2-0. Defenseman Doyle Somerby set up Schroeder from the right-wing circle, and forward Paul Bittner also helped set up the former Iowa center's goal. Iowa cut the deficit in half at 17:42 of the middle frame off forward Landon Ferraro's first goal of the season. After accepting a pass from forward Colton Beck from behind the Cleveland net, Ferraro put the puck past Monsters goaltender Brad Thiessen (24 saves) low stick side for an even-strength goal. Sixty seven seconds later, defenseman Zach Palmquist tied the game at 2-2 with his first goal of the season. On the play, forward Chase Lang passed the puck up to Palmquist at the left point, who beat Thiessen on the stick side. Rookie forward Gerald Mayhew also added an assist on the goal. Shots after two periods were in favor of Cleveland, 19-14.

In a scoreless third period, Iowa outshot Cleveland, 8-6. Shots through regulation were in favor of Cleveland 25-22. Iowa also outshot Cleveland in the overtime period, 4-3.

Anas scored the game-winner in the shootout, beating Thiessen low glove side. Svedberg stopped all three Monster shots he faced.

The Wild finished 0-for-2 on the power play. Iowa didn't take any penalties in the game, which marks the second time that's occurred in team history.

Iowa travels to Rockford for road game at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15.

The Wild welcomes the Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena for the Red Kettle Game with the Salvation Army. Iowa hosts the Milwaukee Admirals on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena for Tacos, Trivia and Tallboys night.
