Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose (11-12-2-2) and Iowa Wild (13-13-2-0) opened a two game set today in Des Moines, IA. The Moose found themselves dealing with some early penalties and Iowa took advantage of Manitoba's second minor. Alex Tuch opened up Sam Anas who had time to zero in on the top corner and pick it over Eric Comrie's shoulder to open the scoring 8:22 into the game. Just shy of four minutes later, a bouncing puck came to Iowa's Grayson Downing in the crease and he barely shoveled the puck over the line before Comrie could lunge back and pull it away. Manitoba cut into the lead with 2:04 left in the frame. Peter Stoykewych's point shot redirected into the goal off Patrice Cormier's skate to put the score at 2-1 Wild after the first. The middle period had a special teams focus with the Moose and Wild combining for five powerplays. Two of those were cut short, with a Scott Kosmachuk minor overlapping a Pat Cannone infraction early on. The penalty killing units did their job, keeping the red light off. Even outside of the powerplay time, the period was tight checking with each team putting eight shots on goal. The Moose exited the scoreless frame with two minutes of powerplay time due to a late high-sticking double minor. The Moose couldn't turn their time on the man-advantage into a tying marker in the early stages of the third. The Wild added some insurance six minutes into the frame on a powerplay of their own. Teemu Pulkkinen spied Jordan Schroeder on the back doorstep and the former Moose forward gave Iowa a 3-1 lead. Manitoba called Comrie to the bench with two minutes left, but couldn't find a way to cut into the lead as the Wild came out with the 3-1 victory. Quick Hits
