Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, Kans. - The Wichita Wingnuts won another tight decision over the Cleburne Railroaders Sunday afternoon, claiming a 3-1 win to take the series at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

For the second day in a row, the game remained scoreless into the middle innings. Tyler Kane worked out of trouble several times in his first four innings of work until Cleburne (19-18) broke through in the fifth. A pair of walks put two in scoring position with one out, and Shawn Zarraga got the visitors on the board with an RBI bounce out.

The Wingnuts (25-11) answered in the home half. Martin Medina and Brennen Salgado hit back-to-back one-out singles against Patrick Mincey (5-1), and Medina then scored on a Richard Prigatano sacrifice fly.

Kane was taken out after five innings, so Wichita called on their bullpen for the final four frames of the afternoon. In the sixth, Austin Boyle (1-0) surrendered a leadoff triple, but was able to work around it to keep the game tied. Wichita then grabbed the lead in the home half on an RBI ground out by TJ Mittelstaedt, his league-leading 40th RBI of the year. Matt Chavez then followed with a solo shot to stretch the lead to 3-1.

Mike Devine worked a perfect seventh, and James Campbell allowed the first two to reach in the eighth before retiring the next three to keep the lead intact. Seth Harvey allowed the tying runs to reach in the ninth, but struck out the side to nail down his sixth save of the year.

The Wingnuts continue their seven-game homestand Monday night with the opener of a four-game series against the Texas AirHogs at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Righty Alex Boshers (4-2, 4.96) will take the mound for Wichita, while Texas will turn to fellow righty Carlos Contreras (1-3, 4.27). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on 1410 AM/93.9 FM KGSO, TuneIn and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
