Wichita Wingnuts News Release

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Wichita Wingnuts saw their five-game winning streak ended on a walk-off single by Michael Hur that gave the Texas AirHogs a 4-3 win Wednesday night at AirHog Stadium.

With the game tied at three entering the ninth, Wichita (38-20) had a couple of chances to get something going against Alan Oaks (2-3). An error put the lead-off runner aboard, but the runner was picked off. T.J. Mittelstaedt then doubled with two down, but he was left stranded to send the game to the bottom half still tied.

Fabian Roman (2-1) came on for the Wingnuts and walked Cory Morales with one out. Morales went from first over to third on a single by Michael Valadez, and then raced home to give Texas (21-37) a 4-3 win on the single by Hur that brought the AirHogs nine-game skid to an end.

Texas opened the evening's scoring in the second. Leon Byrd started the inning with a double, before scoring a couple batters later on a double play ball to give the AirHogs their first lead of the series.

The lead did not last long however, as Wichita pulled ahead with a pair in the next inning. Matt Chavez tied the game with an RBI single, and Brent Dean then put the visitors in front with a run-scoring double.

Wichita stretched their lead to two with a run in the sixth, as Christian Stringer plated Dean with an RBI single.

Texas drew even in the home half on a sacrifice fly by Byrd and a solo home run by Cody Lenahan.

The sixth was the final frame for Wingnuts starter Tim Brown, who allowed three runs in his six frames to earn his seventh quality start, tying him for the team lead with Jon Link. Following Brown, the duo of Chad Nading and Seth Harvey threw spotless seventh and eighth innings, combining to strike out five of the six they faced.

The Wingnuts and AirHogs wrap-up their three-game set Thursday night at AirHog Stadium. Wichita will send right-hander Alex Boshers (5-3, 3.32) to the mound, while Texas will turn to fellow righty Cody Hebner (2-6, 5.61). First pitch is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
