Wichita B-52s News Release

Wichita B-52s assistant coach Jamie Harding, and players Alex Moseley and Kevin Ten Eyck paid a visit to Cloud Elementary last week to speak to the students about SPIRIT (Success, Pride, Integrity, Responsibility, Involvement, and Teamwork) - the school's guidelines to success. The players used examples from experience they have had as friends, teammates, and individuals growing up. They took the opportunity to inform the kids that there is a lot more required to being a successful athlete, than just athletic ability.

"Kids love sports, so when I can show them that connection between soccer and what it took to get to where I am, I think it's a huge help for them. It's not just practice that makes you a good player; it's all the extra stuff -learning in the classroom, having confidence in yourself and teammates, etc. Really you can relate that to anything they do or want to succeed in. Plus it's always funny watching their eyes get big when you get a ball out and start showing them different tricks of the game! They were a good bunch today." -Alex Moseley

Kevin Ten Eyck said "It's always fun to get out and interact with the community, especially the children. I hope my interaction and involvement has made an impact on their lives in any way possible. I hope they strive to be the best person they can be and do the best they can in any situation -school, sports, etc."

The players, coach, teachers, and students all had a fun day of learning. Through the SPIRIT guidelines, the B-52s were able to instill the importance of these valuable characteristics, as well as give real life examples of why each is so important to success.

"On Wednesday, January 15, 2014, Cloud 3rd and 5th graders had the opportunity to hear from two B-52 soccer players and the Assistant Coach. Alex and Kevin did a terrific job of tying the Cloud Guidelines for Success, SPIRIT, to real world situations as well as to the game of soccer.

The players were very involved with the students. They interacted positively with the kids allowing them to become involved in learning a soccer skill, head-balling. They carefully taught the skill to them and encouraged both boys and girls to try the skill. Coach Jamie summed up each session by talking to the students about the importance of carrying the Guidelines for Success with them in everything they do: school, home life, activities and friendships. The students were challenged to be life-long learners and to come up with a fact that they could teach to their teachers. This was an uplifting, wonderful experience for all involved! Thanks, B-52s!" - Cloud Vocal Music Instructor Teri Harpool
