WHL Announces Weekly Award Winners

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Moose Jaw Warriors forward Brayden Burke has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 8, 2017.

Burke registered 12 points (5G-7A) in four games to help the Moose Jaw Warriors go 4-0-0-0 this past week.

On Tuesday, January 3, Burke recorded four points (3G-1A) in a 6-5 shootout win at Prince Albert and was named first star for his efforts. The following day on Wednesday, January 4, he notched three assists in a 4-1 win versus Lethbridge and was named third star. On Friday, January 6, Burke collected three points (2G-1A) in a 4-0 win versus Saskatoon and was named second star for his performance. Finally, he rounded out the weekend with two more assists on Saturday, January 7, in a 4-1 win at Regina.

Burke, who turned 20 on January 1, currently sits sixth in the WHL scoring race with 57 points (12G-45A) in 36 games.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound left winger and product of Edmonton is in his first campaign with the Warriors after a mid-season trade from the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Originally a seventh round pick (145th) of the Red Deer Rebels at the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft, he has collected 200 points (47G-153A) in 152 career WHL regular season games.

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Tri-City Americans goaltender Rylan Parenteau has been named the WHL Goaltender of the Week and the league nominee for Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 8, 2017.

Parenteau, a 20-year-old product of Saskatoon, went 2-0-0-0 this past week with a 0.50 goals-against average, .985 save percentage and one shutout. He returned to his old stomping grounds in Prince Albert on Friday, January 6, and made 40 saves in a 7-1 win, earning second star honours. From there, he put forth a 25-save performance on Saturday, January 7, in a 2-0 shutout of his hometown Blades, being named first star for his effort.

The 6-foot-1, 189-pound goaltender was originally a third round pick (53rd) of the Prince Albert Raiders at the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft. In his first season with the Americans after a mid-season trade from Prince Albert, Parenteau is 15-8-1-0 with a 3.18 GAA, .906 SV% and one shutout.

In 126 career WHL regular season appearances, Parenteau is 58-45-8-2 with a 3.06 GAA, .906 SV% and four shutouts.
