West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps took a big lead and never looked back in snapping their six-game losing streak with a 9-5 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods Monday night in front of 5,487 fans at Fifth Third Ballpark.
An RBI-single by Cam Gibson in the second inning gave the Whitecaps an early 1-0 lead. An inning later, Jose Azocar lifted a two-run double which bounced over the right field wall to extend the 'Caps advantage to 3-0. Two more runs came across in the frame courtesy of a balk and an RBI-triple from Arvicent Perez to give West Michigan a 5-0 lead. Perez plated another run in the fifth with a run-scoring double. One batter later, Gibson followed with a towering home run down the right field line to blow the game open and give the Whitecaps a 9-0 edge. In the seventh, Derek Hill made an incredible diving catch in the right-center field gap to take away an extra base hit from Angel Moreno to record the second out.

Hot Rods pitcher Roel Ramirez (3-6) took his sixth loss after giving up eight runs on 13 hits in four frames in the defeat. The Whitecaps improve to 40-32, and 1-4 in the second half. Bowling Green falls to 1-4 in the second portion of 2016, and 38-36 overall. Gibson led the 'Caps offensively by going 2-for-4 with his home run and four RBI in the contest.
