Lake County Captains News Release
(Eastlake, OH)- Wynton Bernard tripled and scored in the bottom of the seventh inning and the West Michigan Whitecaps beat the Lake County Captains 4-1. Lake County has lost back-to-back games after winning the opener in the four game set.
West Michigan (14-12) scored in the bottom of the second inning. Ben Verlander singled, and then Harold Castro doubled Verlander to third. Both runners touched home plate on the RBI double from Bennent Pickar and the score was 2-0 Whitecaps.
Eric Haase hit his fifth homer of the season for the Captains (7-19), which ties the Midwest League lead. The homer, a solo shot, halved the Whitecap lead to 2-1. All of Hasse's Homers have been solo homeruns. West Michigan added a run in the top of the fifth inning. Javier Betancourt singled, Raph Rhymes followed suit and Dominic Ficociello knocked a singled to left field scoring Betancourt and the score was 3-1 West Michigan.
LHP Luis Lugo (0-4) started the ballgame for the Captains and took the loss. Lugo twirled four and two thirds and allowed five hits, three earned runs one walk and six strikeouts. Robbie Aviles pitched four and one third innings and allowed five hits, one earned run, and four strike outs.
RHP Buck Farmer (3-2) started for West Michigan and earned the win. Farmer pitched seven innings and allowed five hits, one earned run, he walked one and struck out twelve. Farmer allowed the homer to Haase. The Whitecaps bullpen kept the Captains off the board in the final two innings on Wednesday night.
Thursday night is Thirsty Thursday, presented by Labatt Blue and ESPN 850 WKNR, which features a .25-cent Labatt Blue Happy Hour for one hour before game time and half-price draft beer and fountain soda until 9 PM.
As part of Thirsty Thursday, the Captains will offer an all-you-can eat wing and pizza buffet for only $13 outside the Corona Castaways Bar.
Thursday is also Date Night, which provides couples with the opportunity to purchase two tickets to The Officer's Club Suite and enjoy a buffet dinner, a $56 value, for only $34.
The Captains will remain at home in Eastlake, Ohio on Thursday to take on the West Michigan Whitecaps in the finale of a four game series. The Captains will start RHP Dace Kime (0-4, 9.95) and West Michigan will counter with RHP Austin Kubitza (3-2, 2.38). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM from Classic Park.
