Whitecaps and Captains Suspended Due to Rain

West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

EASTLAKE, OH - For the second time in three days, rain overshadowed baseball at Classic Park.

The West Michigan Whitecaps were leading the Lake County Captains by a 1-0 score in the bottom of the first inning when Monday night's game was suspended due to rain.

The ballgame will be scheduled to be completed during the teams' lone remaining series of the year at Fifth Third Ballpark from August 24-26.

On Monday night, a pre-game rain shower forced a 30-minute delay to the start of the action.

When play began, Danry Vasquez opened the game with a leadoff homer in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first, the Captains had a runner at second with one out and Logan Vick batting with a full count when a nearby bolt of lightning forced the game into an immediate delay.

After 34 minutes of torrential downpour, the game was officially suspended.

The Whitecaps have the day off on Tuesday before returning to Fifth Third Ballpark to open a six-game homestand on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. against the Clinton LumberKings. The contest will feature promotions including a pre-game Frisbee giveaway, entertainment from the SweetRight Brothers mascot group, and post-game fireworks presented by Family Fare. Group and individual tickets can be reserved by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
