Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - According to Baseball America's annual offseason prospect rankings, the top nine farmhands in the Chicago White Sox system have played in Winston-Salem during their Minor League careers. Five of these nine players suited up for the Dash during the 2015 season.

Shortstop Tim Anderson enters 2016 as the White Sox top prospect. Fellow first-round pick Carson Fulmer is ranked second, with Spencer Adams, another talented right-hander, is third. Third baseman Trey Michalczewski, a vital member of the Dash's playoff team in 2015, checks in at fourth, while outfielder Jacob May rounds out the top five.

Righty Tyler Danish, outfielder Adam Engel, southpaw Jordan Guerrero outfielder Courtney Hawkins and first baseman Corey Zangari complete the top 10, with Zangari the only one who has not logged time with the Dash.

A first-round pick in 2013, Anderson was a midseason All-Star with Winston-Salem in 2014 before a late-season promotion to Double-A Birmingham. This past season, Anderson shined with the Barons to the tune of a .312 batting average over 125 games.

Fulmer led Vanderbilt University to a national championship before becoming the eighth overall pick in last year's MLB Draft. In eight starts with the Dash, Fulmer posted a 2.05 earned run average and struck out 25 over 22 innings of work.

Adams jumped to Winston-Salem late in 2015 and went 3-0 with a 2.15 earned run average in five starts. In his Minor League career, the 19-year-old hurler is 15-8 with a 3.16 ERA.

A midseason and year-end All-Star in the Carolina League in 2015, Michalczewski paced the Dash and finished second on the circuit with 75 RBIs. He also finished in the top 10 in the CL in games played (127), at-bats (474), hits (123), runs (59), doubles (35) and slugging percentage (.395).

May enjoyed a breakout season with Double-A Birmingham in 2015, where he hit .275 with 47 runs scored and 37 stolen bases in 98 games. He was a member of the Dash in 2014, during which he played 109 games.

After a dominant season with the Dash and Low-A Kannapolis in 2014, Danish jumped to Double-A in 2015, where he went 8-12 with a 4.50 ERA in 26 starts, during which he logged a career-high 142 innings.

Engel played in all but two of Winston-Salem's games in 2015, and he hit .251 with seven home runs and 43 RBIs. He also led the league and was third in the Minors with 65 stolen bases. Engel parlayed his strong season with the Dash into an MVP effort in the Arizona Fall League, a prospect showcase during October and November.

Guerrero was 13-4 with a 3.08 ERA between Winston-Salem and Kannapolis, with 16 of those starts coming in Winston-Salem. Guerrero is 19-10 with a 3.31 ERA in his four years of Minor League experience.

Hawkins was with Winston-Salem from late in 2012 through the 2014 season, hitting 39 home runs and driving in 148 runs during this span. Last year in Birmingham, Hawkins hit .243 with nine homers and 41 RBIs in 78 games.

A sixth-round pick in last year's draft, Zangari split his first go-around in the Minors with the AZL White Sox and Great Falls, amassing a .316 batting average, six home runs and 41 RBIs.

The Dash's 2016 season will begin on Thursday, April 7, at Lynchburg, while the home opener is set for Thursday, April 14, against the Salem Red Sox.
