Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons and Chicago White Sox have announced that RHP Philip Humber will make a rehab start for the Barons during the team's Wednesday, July 11th home game against the Tennessee Smokies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.

On April 21st, against the Seattle Mariners, Humber became the 21st pitcher in Major League history to throw a perfect game. It marked the third perfect game in White Sox history as Humber joined Charlie Robertson and Mark Beuhrle in the exclusive club. It was also the 18th no-hitter in the team's 111-year history. The perfect game came in Humber's 30th Major League start and his second of the 2012 season. It was also his first career complete game.

Humber was named American League Player of the Week for the week ending April 22nd going 1-0 with a 0.63 ERA in 14.1 innings while striking out 16 over two starts. On the season, Humber is 3-4 with a 6.01 ERA (45 ER/67.1 IP) with 63 strikeouts and 31 walks in 12 starts.

Humber (29) is in his eighth professional season and second with the White Sox organization. Originally selected by the New York Mets in the first round of the June 2004 First-Year Player Draft, Humber was claimed off waivers by the White Sox on January 18th, 2011. He made all but one of his appearances with the White Sox last season, going 9-9 with a 3.75 ERA (68 ER/163.0 IP) in 28 games (26 starts).

Humber was placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 22nd with a right elbow strain. This will be Humber's third rehab appearance after previously making two starts with the Class AAA Charlotte Knights, going 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA (4 ER/6.1 IP). This will be Humber's first career appearance with the Barons.
