Whelan Transferred Back To Scranton

(TRENTON, NJ) The Trenton Thunder, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that RHP Kevin Whelan has been transferred back to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Whelan, 26, appeared in 24 games with the Thunder after being transferred to Double-A on May 28. While with Trenton, Whelan went 3-3 with a 5.83 ERA in 24 games. He allowed 19 earned runs on 20 hits in 29.1 innings pitched, while striking out 40 and walking 21. The Texas native appeared in ten games to begin the season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and went 1-1 with a 9.49 ERA in 12.1 innings pitched.

Whelan was acquired by the Yankees on November 10, 2006 from the Detroit Tigers along with RHPs Humberto Sanchez and Anthony Claggett in exchange for OF Gary Sheffield.

The Thunder play the middle game of a three game series against Bowie tonight at 7:05 PM from Waterfront Park. RHP Adam Warren makes the start for the Thunder, while Bowie goes with LHP Rick Zagone. All the action can be heard live on 107.7 FM or online at www.trentonthunder.com.
