The fourth month of the regular season is about to come to an end for the Wheeling Nailers, and as they have all year, the players and staff have done an outstanding job of getting out in the community, getting fans excited about the final 13 home games of the 2015-16 campaign.

January featured a few familiar events, such as the monthy Celebrity Server Night at Quaker Steak & Lube at The Highlands. Shane Bakker and Jarrett Burton put their bartending skills to the test this month, while even trying their hand at karaoke. That night also matched up with the Pittsburgh Penguins game against the Chicago Blackhawks, which saw former Nailer Scott Darling between the pipes for the defending Stanley Cup Champions. February's Celebrity Server Night will take place on the 24th, when the Penguins visit the Boston Bruins.

Another recurring event took place at the YMCA in Elm Grove. Mike Slowikowski, Andrew Cerretani, Mathew Maione, John McCarron, and Adam Krause all spent an evening with local kids, playing various sports from basketball to floor hockey, and even tossing a football around. The structure of the group allowed the Nailers players to make connections with the individuals, giving them a chance to have fun, while learning valuable lessons about the sports themselves, in addition to being good teammates. The YMCA brought those youngsters to the game on January 22nd, as part of their Friday Night Blast program.

Throughout the years of hockey in Wheeling, the Nailers have also made a large impact with both the local girl scout and boy scout programs. The girl scouts attended their annual game at WesBanco Arena on January 9th, and the boy scouts will be coming out to the 8:05 contest on February 6th. To get them hyped up for their special night, Nailers players Shane Bakker, Paul Cianfrini, Danny Fick, Matt Tabrum, Anton Zlobin, and Brett Stern hung out with the top popcorn sellers among the boy scouts, taking them inside the team's locker room, while dressing a few specially selected scouts in hockey gear.

One night prior to Boy Scout Night, the Nailers will play a 7:35 game against the Reading Royals, and they will welcome members of the youth group from Ohio Valley Christian Center to the arena. Earlier this week, Shane Bakker and Brett Stern visited that group, and with the help of Radio Broadcaster DJ Abisalih, were able to have a meaningful chat with the adolescents about making the jump into working in the real world, moving away from home, and chasing down their dream jobs and lives. In addition, Eric Dean of Ohio Valley Christian Center compiled a tremendous presentation, featuring video of Bakker and Stern in action.

Although the Nailers will play ten of their next 12 games on the road, there will be more events in February and March, as the team prepares to host great promotions such as Pink in the Rink and Pups 'n Pucks.
