Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings will be hoping to get back on track Friday night when they close out a 4-game Western Hockey League home stand against the Saskatoon Blades.

The Wheat Kings, who are coming off Tuesday's disappointing loss to Prince Albert on Tuesday night, begin the weekend sitting atop the Eastern Division with a record of 34-16-2-2. Brandon is currently six points up on the second place Raiders in the division and trail Lethbridge by four and Red Deer by one in the Eastern Conference.

Saskatoon meanwhile is 19-31-4-0 on the season and sit eleven points back of both Regina and Edmonton, who occupy the final two playoff spots.

Friday's game is the fourth of the season between these two teams and only the second since January's multi-player trade between the two that saw Brandon acquire blueliners Mitch Wheaton and Schael Higson and a second round draft choice in exchange for Braylon Shmyr and Colton Waltz.

A member of the 2015 WHL Champion Kelowna Rockets, Wheaton has three assists and is a +5 since joining the Wheat Kings while the 17-year old Higson leads the club with 34 penalty minutes since last month's trade.

A former first round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, Shmyr has been excellent since joining the Blades, scoring seven goals in sixteen games. Waltz meanwhile has two goals and 5 points but is a -9 since joining Saskatoon.

Friday's game is the first of two games this Louis Riel long weekend as they travel to Regina to meet the Pats on Saturday.

The club's lone home game of the weekend will feature a Salute to Westman 4-H, presented by Enns Brothers.

Through a generous partnership between Enns Brothers and the hockey club, over four hundred 4-H members from across western Manitoba will be attending this game.

Clubs and communities represented include Newdale, Brandon, Oak Lake, St. Claude, Deloraine, Neepawa, Alexander, Lenore, Erickson, Treherne, Minitonas, Miniota, Manitou, Souris, Dand, Carberry and Roseland.

Tickets to the game, which have already surpassed the 4,000 mark, are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office. Fans can also order online at keystonecentre.com or by calling (204) 726-3555.
