January 30, 2016 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Red Deer Rebels News Release

It has been a rather interesting season series between the Brandon Wheat Kings and Red Deer Rebels coming into this Saturday night affair. The Rebels lead the series 2-1 with each game having won by shutout, including a 10-0 shocker for the Rebels in Red Deer on January 2. Since that game, the Wheat Kings have gone 7-2, setting up an exciting fourth meeting between these two top-tier teams.

FIRST PERIOD

The Wheat Kings came out firing, peppering Rebels goalie Rylan Toth with a number of Grade-A scoring chances. But Toth stood tall long enough for his club to open the scoring.

On a powerplay, Jake DeBrusk slipped the puck through the five hole of Joardan Parpirny, Michael Spacek made sure it crossed the goal line, earning his 14th goal of the season. Adam Helewka picked up the second assist on the 1-0 Rebels goal 8:57 into the game.

SECOND PERIOD

Despite both teams getting some more top notch scoring chances in the middle frame, both Toth and Papirny shut the door to keep this a 1-0 game heading into the final period.

THIRD PERIOD

The goaltending duel continued in the third period. Toth and Papirny took turns making dazzling saves as both the Rebels and Wheat Kings continued to generate great scoring chances.

The Wheat Kings finally broke through with their 34th shot on goal. Nolan Patrick lazered one top shelf past Toth for his 19th goal of the year. With 3:42 to go, this game was tied 1-1.

With 1:21 to go Tyler Coulter took a great feed from Patrick and put home his 13th goal of the year. Brandon would hang on from there for a 2-1 come from behind victory.
