Rapid City Rush News Release
The Week That Was
---Friday, January 22nd - COLORADO EAGLES 5, RAPID CITY RUSH 1
(RC: Gauthier-1st Rush Goal); (COL: 3 G in 44 Sec in 2nd Period)
Battling for the first time since after Christmas, the Rush and Eagles squared off in Game 6 of the Crystal Cup Rivalry Series. After tying the game at 1-1 halfway through the second thanks to Danick Gauthier's first Rush goal, the Eagles flew with 3 goals in 44 seconds to take a commanding 4-1 lead, eventually defeating the Rush by a 5-1 score, their fourth straight win over their Mt. Rushmore rival.
---Saturday, January 23rd -COLORADO EAGLES 4, RAPID CITY RUSH 2
(RC: Dieude-Fauvel, Barczuk-PPG Each); (COL: Marto-G, 2 Ast)
A more spirited effort from the Rush, Saturday night proved to be a closer matchup for the Boys from the Black Hills. After trailing 2-0 after one period of play, Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel, in just his second game as a Rush defenseman, got things started with a power play goal roughly six and a half minutes into the second period, bringing the Rush in striking distance, down 2-1. Daniel Barczuk tied the game with a deflection of his own on the PP just four minutes into the third, but Johnny Lazo notched his third goal in the two-game set to put the Eagles ahead with 6:45 left in the game, eventually winning it for his Colorado side, 4-2.
Notes and NumbersRodeo of a Road Trip - The Rush once again embark on another road trip due to the annual Stock Show and Rodeo that comes through Rapid City every year. This time, the festivities are putting the Rush on a season-high seven-game road trip, and ultimately has the Rush playing 10 of their next 11 games away from home, 8 of which are against divisional opponents: Idaho (twice), Utah (three times), and Colorado (3 more times). On the road, the Rush are 7-8-2-0.
Power of Life - Saturday marked the fifth time this season that the Rush have struck twice on the power play, ultimately going 2/3 against Colorado on Saturday. It's just the second time that the Rush have scored a power play goal in a game against Colorado, also the second time in the head-to-head series that the Rush have tied a game against Colorado with a power play goal, but unfortunately the first time all season that the Rush have lost when igniting the goal lamp twice on the PP (4-1-0 in that scenario).
