What's In a Name? Exploring the New PNC Field

April 4, 2013 - International League (IL1) - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

MOOSIC, Pa. - When the reconstructed PNC Field opens her gates tonight, guests will have a variety of areas to explore. But before you and a friend find Lewis & Clark regalia and begin pursuit of an orienteering merit badge, let's journey through the cartography and subsequent naming that has already been taken care of for you.

PNC FIELD

What once was a stadium was torn down, and in its place a $43 million ballpark that is today's PNC Field was built. The definitive destination for affordable, fun, family entertainment, the new PNC Field is also a wondrous merger of technology, amenities, entertainment and good old fashioned baseball. From the widened, 360-degree concourse to the abundant and varied flavors of her concession stands and so much more, PNC Field will wow all comers. Now, let's venture to its signature spots. "Having our name and brand associated with this newly renovated state-of-the-art ballpark is truly an honor for us," said Peter Danchak, president, PNC Bank, Northeast Pennsylvania. "We are proud to partner with and support our Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders as they bring a high quality, affordable, fun baseball experience to the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania at PNC Field."

BUDWESIER RAILHOUSE

The premiere adult destination in the ballpark, the Budweiser RailHouse allows guests to enjoy a cold Budweiser beverage and specialty food including smoked barbecue. The view is spectacular from fair ground in right field with tiered bar stool seating and a drink rail for a slim $12. Don't have a ticket to your own bar stool tiered seat? You can still enjoy the bar proper which is open and fun for everyone.

KOST PARTY PAVILION

Nestled down the third-base line, the Kost Party Pavilion is a picnic area that can seat groups from as few as 24 guests up to 270. It sports butler-style catering along with food and beverage built right into the price. With a variety of packages available for your imbibing pleasure, price points start at a modest $29 for all-you-can-eat fare.

MOHEGAN SUB CLUB & SUITE LEVEL

Enjoy the VIP experience in the Mohegan Sun Club & Suite Level, a private hub reserved for club and suite ticket holders nightly. An upgraded buffet is available for nightly purchase as are drinks from a fully stocked bar. Be whisked into this haven through a private entrance and experience amenities galore including concierge service. The interest in this area was so strong, outside of the nightly rental suite and party decks, it is sold out for the next three years. Those that wish to make the waiting list must be season ticket holders. "The entire team at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs is thrilled to welcome baseball back to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area," said Mike Bean, president and general manager of Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. "We are proud to partner with the RailRiders as sponsors of the new Mohegan Sun Club Level at PNC Field, and look forward to an exciting season of baseball."

NEPA DEALERS' ASSOCIATION HONDA HOMER ZONE

Bring a blanket and your glove to the open lawn seating area that is the NEPA Dealers' Association Honda Homer Zone just behind the outfield wall. When batters say "bye, bye baseball" to home runs, that no longer means guests must bid adieu as well. Homers aplenty will fall from the sky into this mixture of nature, comfort and affordability at less than $30 for a family of four. Mom and dad will be in an ideal spot with a nearly 4,000-square foot Family Fun Zone immediately behind this area along with access to the 360-degree concourse to circle the field. "When it comes to sponsorships, the Northeast Pennsylvania area offers us many attractive opportunities," said Brian Walsh, president of Northeast Pennsylvania Honda Dealers. "After meeting with the RailRiders organization, our decision became very clear. Their state-of-the-art facility, devotion to creating a great experience for fans of all ages, and overwhelming regional presence were more than convincing. NEPA Honda Dealers are proud to be a partner in this exciting new venture and, as your five local Honda dealers, to serve the people in the communities we share."

PENNSYLVANIA LOTTERY BULLPENS

These open-air bullpens stand side by side in left field. Visible from the 360-degree concourse and sitting just below the walkway bridge, the Pennsylvania Lottery Bullpens bring guests closer to the action than ever before. Rest your drink on the rail built into the fencing above the 'pens while you look down upon the loosening hurlers that are a call away from The Show. Hear the ball sizzle in flight before it pops into the catcher's glove or see just who is warming up from most of the ballpark thanks to a simple mesh fencing rather than a solid wall. "The Pennsylvania Lottery is very proud to partner with the Scranton-Wilkes Barre RailRiders for the 2013 season," said Connie Bloss, its director of marketing. "It is a great opportunity to remind RailRiders fans of the many important ways in which the Pennsylvania Lottery benefits older Pennsylvanians, every day. Baseball fans who are lottery players help to make these vital benefits possible."

THE UNIVERSITY OF SCRANTON GUEST SERVICES

Adjacent to the ballpark's main entrance plaza, The University of Scranton Guest Services is your go-to destination for knowledge. Lose something? Check the lost and found. Lost someone? They will get the communication going throughout the ballpark to reunite you and your lost party. Anything you need to know about PNC Field, RailRiders baseball, or advanced calculus* can be discovered here. *Advanced calculus may not be available on specific nights depending upon staffing.

The RailRiders' 2013 season gets underway with the grand opening of a reconstructed PNC Field tonight when the defending IL champion Pawtucket Red Sox come to town for a rematch of their 2012 playoff clash with SWB. It will mark the first "Thirsty Thursday" promotion of the year with $1 beer specials and $1 Pepsi products along with a pre-game live band performance and post-game fireworks. Single-game tickets are on sale now.
