What's a Mott-A You?

Midland RockHounds News Release

In the last five games between the RockHounds and Corpus Christi, Mott Hyde has delivered three critical hits ... all in the ninth inning or extra innings. Two of those hits came in Friday night's Hooks win (3-2 in 11 innings) at Security Bank Ballpark.

With the clubs tied, 1-1, Hyde led off the tenth inning with an opposite field double into the right field corner off Bobby Wahl and later scored on a throwing error to give the Hooks a 2-1 lead. After the RockHounds rallied back in the home half of the inning (on Yairo Munoz's two-out RBI triple to right-center), Hyde came up big again. His single to left field drove in James Ramsay (who led the eleventh inning off with an opposite field double inside the bag at third) on a close play at the plate with what would, this time, be the game-winning run.

Hyde's string of heroics began on July 29 at Corpus Christi. After his error helped the RockHounds tie the game in the top of the ninth, Hyde tripled in the home half of the inning and scored the game-winner moments later in a 5-4 Hooks win at Whataburger Field.

- Ramon Laureano led the game off with a solo home run to left field ... and the Hooks didn't score again until extra innings.

- In the first 10 innings, the RockHounds went 1-2-3 three times, but had the leadoff batter on in every other inning, scoring just two runs.

- Tyler Marincov went 4-for-5 with three infield singles among his hits ... one to second, one to third and one to shortstop. Marincov, who entered the series in a 6-for-44 slump, is 7-for-9 in the first two games of the series at Security Bank Ballpark.

- After loading the bases with one out (and the game tied, 1-1) in the eighth inning, Hooks reliever Kevin Comer retired J.P. Sportman (on a seven-pitch strikeout) and Yairo Munoz on a ground out (a six-pitch at bat). All 13 pitches he threw to Sportman and Munoz were strikes.

- After surrendering the leadoff home run to Laureano, RockHounds starter Heath Fillmyer scattered three hits over five innings of work, allowing the lone run (on a total of four hits), with no walks and four strikeouts. Fillmyer has posted a 2.25 ERA in four starts with the 'Hounds.

- Trey Cochran-Gill pitched two scoreless innings in relief and has now has allowed two runs (earned) in his last 18 appearances. In those games, he has allowed 20 hits over 31 innings, walking nine and striking out 22, for a 0.58 ERA and a 0.94 WHIP.

... continue their four-game series with the Corpus Christi Hooks on Saturday night, with first pitch at 7:00 p.m. at Security Bank Ballpark. The game will be followed by a fireworks show, with the series (and homestand) concluding Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Sunday's games conclude the Texas League's longest consecutive game stretch of the season (26 games in 26 days) with Monday being a league-wide off day.
