The Manchester Monarchs handed the Whale a 9-2 road defeat on Saturday night, and Connecticut was then shut out at home Sunday by the Albany Devils, 1-0. J.T. This week:

It's a busy week of home action for the Whale, with three games at the XL Center upcoming. The Worcester Sharks come to town on Wednesday, the Albany Devils again on Friday and the Portland Pirates on Saturday night. All three contests face off at 7:00 PM.

Wednesday, December 12 vs. the Worcester Sharks at the XL Center, 7:00 p.m.

- The Sharks came from behind in the third period Sunday to score a 3-2 win in Manchester, improving to 12-8-1-2 for 27 points and vaulting into first place in the Atlantic Division.

- Former Whale Tim Kennedy had one of Worcester's two third-period goals Sunday at Manchester, and added an assist, to increase his scoring totals on the year to 12-14-26 in 23 games. Kennedy is on an eight-game point-scoring streak in which he has amassed 8-7-15, and is tied for third in the AHL in points.

- This is the first of two visits on the year by the Sharks to the XL Center, but the two teams have already met twice in Worcester. The Whale won both games, 6-2 on November 10 and 2-1 November 17.

- Radio - live with Bob Crawford and Mark Bailey on "Beethoven Radio" AM 1290, and on-line at www.ctwhale.com.

Friday, December 14 vs. the Albany Devils at the XL Center, 7:00 p.m.

- At this and all Whale Friday-night home games, fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $2 beers until 8:00 PM.

- This game features a toy drive to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hartford. Fans are asked to bring new, unused toys to the game to donate. Further information is available at www.ctwhale.com.

- This is the second trip to the XL Center in less than a week for the Devils, who posted a 1-0 shutout over the Whale this past Sunday in Hartford. That was after the Whale won the first two games of the season series, both in Albany.

- Devil goaltender Keith Kinkaid rang up his second shutout of the season Sunday, stopping 30 Whale shots, and Joe Whitney's second-period goal was the game's only scoring.

- Sunday's win over the Whale stretched Albany's first winning streak of the year to three games and brought the Devils (7-8-0-5, 19 pts.) to within two points of fourth-place Adirondack in the Northeast Division.

- Radio - live with Bob Crawford and Mark Bailey on "Beethoven Radio" AM 1290, and on-line at www.ctwhale.com.

Saturday, December 15 vs. the Portland Pirates at the XL Center, 7:00 p.m.

- This is the second visit of the season by the Pirates to the XL Center. Ex-Whale goaltender Chad Johnson came within 36 seconds of blanking his old club November 16, making 29 saves in a 2-1 Portland win.

- The Pirates (11-10-1-1, 24 pts.) came back from a 3-0 second-period deficit in their last game Saturday at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, eventually winning 4-3 in a shootout to jump past St. John's and into fourth place in the Atlantic.

- Oliver Ekman-Larsson, who had the tying goal on a Portland power play in Saturday's third period in Wilkes-Barre, has 16 points (6-10-16) in only 15 games, tied for eighth-most among AHL defensemen. Ekman-Larsson had 13 goals and 19 assists for 32 points in 82 NHL games with the parent Phoenix Coyotes last season.

- This is a Whale Scout Night, featuring a pre-game holiday skate for scouts with Pucky, the Whale mascot. For information on Scout Night tickets, contact the Whale ticket office at (860) 548-2000.

- Radio - live with Bob Crawford and Mark Bailey on "The Rock" 106.9 WCCC-FM. All Whale Saturday night games this year will be beamed on The Rock 106.9 WCCC's 50,000 watts of power. Also available on-line at www.ctwhale.com.
