Westerners Sign Chris Murphy

Danbury, CT- March 5, 2013: The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce the signing of Millersville RHP Chris Murphy.

Chris Murphy is in his first season as a pitcher at Millersville University. In his first year at Millersville, Chris has already piled up a number of accolades in the young season. Chris has been recognized as the NCBWA Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week twice, the NCBWA Division II Pitcher of the week, and the PSAC East Pitcher of the Week. Over the first month of the season, Chris posts a 4-0 record with a 2.45 ERA, while striking out 35 batters, and only walking four. Chris' highlight of the season to date came on February 24th, when he no-hit Glennville State in a seven inning contest. In addition to the no-hitter, Chris picked up the win against nationally ranked West Florida, giving up just four hits and two runs over seven innings. Chris is the son of Dennis and Linda Murphy, and is majoring in business administration.

Paul Schaffer, President of the Westerners commented, "It's exciting that a talent like Chris Murphy will be pitching for the Westerners this year. His early season successes should bode well this summer, and I'm looking forward to meeting him."

In addition the Danbury Westerners have announced that their annual Celebrity Breakfast to introduce the 2013 Westerners to the community will be held on Friday June 7th at 7:30AM at the Amber Room in Danbury. Former New York Met pitcher and current broadcaster Ron Darling is the keynote speaker. Reservations are required. The Danbury Westerners 9th annual Celebrity Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, July 17th at Richter Park, Danbury CT. Former professional athletes tentatively scheduled to appear include New York Yankee World Series Champion Tommy John and New York Giants Super Bowl Champion Jeff Feagles.
