West Tenn wins over Birmingham

Jackson, TN- Doug Fister and Jason Mackintosh combined on a four hit shutout as the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx blanked the Birmingham Barons 3-0 before a Saturday night crowd of 3323 at Pringles Park. The win moves the Diamond Jaxx into sole possession of third place in the Northern Division, three games behind Carolina.
Fister (3-0) flirted with a no-hitter before giving up a double to David Cook with one out in the seventh inning. The right-hander allowed just three hits in 7 1/3 innings of work, walking one and striking out seven. Fister has thrown fourteen consecutive innings without allowing a run. Mackintosh got the final four outs to nail down his second save of the season.
Clayton Richard suffered the loss for Birmingham, dropping his record to 2-2 on the season. Richard pitched well, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings of work. He walked one and struckout six on the night.
Game two of the five game series is set for Sunday afternoon at 1:05 CDT. Right-hander Rich Dorman (2-1 2.93) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx. The Barons will counter with righty Kyle McCulloch (1-2 4.50).
