Weigel With Strong Start, Five Run Fifth Gives Rome Win

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Augusta GreenJackets 6-1 Friday night at State Mutual Stadium before 2,442 fans. Rome starter Patrick Weigel went six innings, allowed one run while striking out six Augusta hitters.

Augusta scratched the scoreboard in the first inning on a solo home run by Dillion Dobson (1) for the 1-0 lead. Rome was no-hit for four innings before crossing the plate five times in the fifth highlighted by a two run double from Luke Dykstra. Jonathan Morales added a two RBI single and another run crossed the plate on an error to give the Braves a 5-1 advantage. Rome added another run in the seventh for the 6-1 final.

Rome pitching held Augusta to four hits and one run to pick up the team's second win of the season. Augusta's pitching was strong as well holding Rome to just three hits on the night. Weigel (1-0) gets the victory and Phil Bickford (0-1) the loss.
