Weekend Preview: Sting Home to Colts & Storm

The Sarnia Sting will play 3 games in as many nights this weekend; getting underway on Friday night at the SSEC. The Sting play host to the OHL's leading scorer, Kevin Labanc and the Barrie Colts on Friday night. This will be the second of two meetings between the two clubs this season. The Sting (33-17-5-2) got the better of the Colts (35-18-0-2) by a score of 1-0 back on October 1st. Friday's game is presented by Goodlife Fitness.

On Saturday, the Sting head north to take on the Owen Sound Attack at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. Fans can tune in to CHOK 1070 or TV Cogeco to catch the action. The Attack (26-20-7-3) currently sit in 6th place in the Western Conference Standings.

The club returns to the SSEC on Sunday night for a tilt against the Guelph Storm. The Sting are 2-0-0-0 when facing the Storm (12-37-4-2) this year. Puck drop is set for 7:05 PM and the game is in support of the Heart & Stroke Foundation. The Foundation will be accepting donations at the game, and fans can show their support in advance by purchasing a Heart Pack from the Heart & Stroke, or by purchasing tickets online. $5 from each online ticket purchase will be donated back to the Foundation.

Sting Notes:

West Division: The Sting remain 1 point ahead of the rival Spitfires for tops in the OHL's West Division (heading into Thursday night). Sarnia and Windsor are slated to meet 3 more times this season; March 4th in Sarnia, March 10th in Windsor, and March 20th in Sarnia.

Home-ice advantage: Through 28 home games, the Sting are 19-5-3-1 at the SSEC. With a winning percentage of 75%, the Sting are 4th in the OHL with home-ice advantage.

Penalty Kill: Operating at 83.3%, the Sting PK is the third best in the OHL.

Travis Konecny: Through 51 games played this season, Konecny has a career-high 84 points (23G, 61A). Since joining the Sting, he has registered 39 points (16G, 23A) in 22 games played and has points in 13 straight.

Sam Studnicka: The Sting captain has points in 4 straight games including a goal on Sunday afternoon in his 250th career OHL game. Studnicka's 59% in the face-off circle is good for 3rd best in the OHL.

Nikita Korostelev: Korostelev snapped a 22 year franchise record on Sunday afternoon, scoring just 9 seconds into the game. The previous record was 12 seconds, set in 1994.

Josh Jacobs: Jacobs registered 1G, 1A on Sunday afternoon including the OT winner over Sault Ste, Marie. The defenceman now has 21 points and is a +13 in this, his first OHL season.
