Siouxland Weekend

The Black Hawks duel the Sioux Falls Stampede and the Sioux City Musketeers over the course of three games, with less than 48 hours elapsing between the opening faceoff and the final horn. The matchups against Sioux Falls will be at Young Arena at 7:05 on both Friday and Saturday. Waterloo's weekend concludes with a game in Sioux City beginning at 3:05 on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks are 1-2-0 against Sioux Falls this season; all three games were played in South Dakota within a 22-day span during late October/early November. Waterloo has met Sioux City just once, a 7-5 loss on October 18th. From this point on the schedule through the end of the regular season, the Hawks will play the Musketeers more often than any other conference opponent.

Same Alignment

This is the Black Hawks' second three-game, three-day weekend of the season. In the only previous instance, Waterloo met the same opponents in the same order. From October 16th through 18th, the Hawks visited Sioux Falls Friday and Saturday, concluding the trip in Sioux City Sunday. Waterloo ended on the downside of each result, but was within one goal with under two minutes to play each night.

Getting Enough Shots

No USHL team has outshot the opposition more consistently than the Black Hawks. Waterloo has finished 23 of 33 games (69.6%) with more pucks on frame. In those contests, the team owns a record of 11-11-1. However, the trend has not been borne out with the same consistency during January. This month, the Hawks have outshot opponents in just three of seven games.

A Shot from the Line

When it comes to putting shots on net, Michael Davies is among the best. Davies ranks second on the Black Hawks with 85 shots on goal, an average of 2.6 per game. Only Nick Swaney (104) has more total shots. Davies' shot count is currently fourth among all USHL defensemen. Many of those chances have originated in power play situations. With nine power play points, Davies leads Waterloo in special teams scoring. As a member of the Dubuque Fighting Saints last season, Davies fired just 69 shots in 52 appearances.

Weekly Recap

The Fargo Force prevailed in two penalty-filled games over the weekend. The Hawks' 38 and 44 penalty minutes on Friday and Saturday respectively were successive season highs. The Force capitalized on 6 of 17 resulting power plays, winning 6-0 on Friday and 3-1 Saturday. Nick Swaney notched Waterloo's Saturday goal, his team-leading 18th of the season. Despite the losses, the Hawks retained a share of sixth place in the Western Conference, the same position in which they opened the weekend.
