Washington Wild Things Sell Jim Vahalik's Contract

Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Financial, announced that catcher Jim Vahalik's contract has been sold to the Baltimore Orioles.

Vahalik was acquired from the London Rippers on July 26th of this year. The native of Westerville, Ohio chalked up 49 hits including 24 RBI in 174 at-bats while he was with the London Ripper's organization. As a Wild Thing he added 15 hits and nine RBI. He completed the 2012 season with a .239 batting average.

Wild Things' field manager, Chris Bando said, "Jim Vahalik has all the tools to be a solid major league catcher. His enthusiasm and passion for the game is contagious for his teammates, and I'm excited for Jim and look forward to hearing good things from the Orioles about Jim."

Vahalik, a graduate of the University of Toledo earned a .285 batting average, collected 13 home runs and 86 RBI's in his time with the Rockets.

"In our discussions with the scout, we believe Jim will be assigned either to the South Atlantic League or the Caroline League," said Steve Zavacky, assistant general manager for the Washington Wild Things.
