Evansville Otters News Release

(WASHINGTON, Penn.) - The Evansville Otters loaded up the bases in the ninth inning but a double play induced by closer Eryk McConnell ended the game, sealing a 3-2 win for the Washington Wild Things.

Washington pulled ahead 2-0 with a pair of runs in the third inning against Evansville starter Jorge Lugo. However, the lefthander was forced to leave the game in the next inning on a comebacker off the bat of Eric Stephens. A few batters later Michael Parker drew a bases loaded walk to go-ahead 3-0.

Evansville plated a run on a fielder's choice of the bat of Vinnie Scarduzio in the 5th inning and it was the bullpen for the Otters that came through in the clutch.

Kyle Barry, who walked seven batters in the game, left the bases loaded in both the fourth and fifth innings. Reliever Patrick Crider did the same in the sixth inning after striking out back to back batters as momentum swung onto Evansville's side.

The Otters filled the bases with no one out in the 7th but reliever Kevin Hammons also struck out the next three batters to maintain the lead.

The score would stay 3-1 in favor of Washington into the top of the 9th inning when Evansville again loaded up the bases with no outs. A walk to Vinnie Scarduzio forced in a run to bring Evansville within one but closer Eryk McConnell got a fielder's choice at the plate and a double play up the middle to win the game.

Washington improves to 15-23 with the victory as the Evansville Otters are now 14-24 this season after losing their fifth game in a row.

The Otters and Wild Things complete this mid-week three game series tomorrow night at CONSOL Energy Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM EST.
