The Green Bay Gamblers collected 1,526 pairs of mittens this past Saturday (12/10/16) as part of the team's annual Mitten Toss. Since the promotions inception in 2009, the Mitten Toss has collected over 11,500 pairs of mittens for those in need in Northeast Wisconsin.
The mittens were tossed onto the ice when forward Brock Caufield (Mosinee, WI) scored just a little over two minutes into the game.
"One of the cornerstones of the Gamblers organization is that we give back to the people of Northeast Wisconsin," says Gamblers Director of Business Jeff Mitchell. "There are people who need help. In this case, they need mittens. Our sponsors and fans champion the cause of giving back and together we were able to provide a much needed service."
Area elementary school teachers and administrators also took part in Knocker Ball races at the game. Clintonville Public School District and Danz Elementary each won $500.00 for their respective schools.
For an eighth consecutive season, Fox Communities Credit Union was the "Presenting" sponsor. Supporting sponsors include Aurora BayCare, Green Bay Preble High School H.O.S.A. students and faculty, Menominee Casino Resort, Saranac Glove and WIXX.
"Fox Communities Credit Union is a tremendous partner. They do so many things in our community that help people. We are very fortunate to have them involved" says Mitchell.
The team will also be collecting mittens at their home games on December 28 and December 31. Mittens can be dropped off at the Gamblers team store located in the Resch Center lobby.
Next home game at the Resch Center is Wednesday, December 28 (7:05 PM). Its Princess Night featuring an appearance by Disney characters Elsa, Belle, Rapunzel and Tiana. The Gamblers are also home on December 31 (6:05 PM), for their annual New Year's Eve game. For tickets and additional information log onto www.gamblershockey.com
