Ward Drives in Two in Senators Win 3-2

July 17, 2016 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

Drew Ward drove in two with a bases loaded first inning single helping to lead the Harrisburg Senators to a 3-2 win over Altoona on Sunday afternoon. The Senators improved to 50-43 with the win, their third straight while Altoona falls to 52-41 with the loss.

Greg Ross started for the Senators and retired the first nine batters before allowing a pair of runs in the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth, Ross stumbled going across the bag at first trying to beat out a ball hit to third base. Ross left the game.

Derek Self took over and pitched three scoreless innings to earn the win, his third on the season against two losses with the Senators.

Harrisburg took the lead in the sixth when Andrew Stevenson doubled, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.

Self was followed by Andrew Robinson who pitched a scoreless eighth. Nick Lee pitched the ninth for the Senators, looking for his first save. With two on and one out, Justin Maffei launched a long fly ball to center field that Stevenson tracked down, starting an 8-6-4 double play to end the game as Eric Wood had rounded third for Altoona thinking the ball wouldn't be caught.

The Senators bullpen tossed five shutout innings after tossing 8.1 innings on Saturday night allowing just a single run.

Offensively the Senators managed only six hits, but they were enough as they move to 7-4 on the season against the first place Curve.

The Senators and Erie SeaWolves play game one of their three-game series Monday night at 7:05 p.m. at Jerry Uht Park in Erie. The game can be heard on Fox Sports 1460 AM, on the internet at senatorsbaseball.com, or through the TuneIn and iHeart Radio apps with The Matt LeCroy Show beginning the radio broadcast at 6:50 p.m.
