'Walk to London' Arrives in Tacoma

TACOMA, Wash. - Sunday, April 22, at 1:35pm, Cheney Stadium will start to fill with fans and U.S. Olympic medalists. In honor of this year's summer Olympics in London, England, the U.S. Olympic Association is sending Olympic alumni to visit multiple cities across the United States to promote health and fitness and rally support for the U.S. Olympic Team.
The 'Walk to London' movement is a project that was instituted by outgoing president Willie Banks, who medaled in Athletics in 1980, 1984, and 1988. Mr. Banks will be in attendance at tomorrow's game along with Phil Mahre, a local champion alpine ski racer from White Pass, WA. Mr. Mahre won a gold in the 1984 winter Olympics for alpine skiing and will be throwing out tomorrow's first pitch.

Olympians will be helping to throw t-shirts during the sixth inning, signing autographs and available for photo opportunities during the seventh inning and running the bases with fans post-game. Any child who runs the bases post-game will receive a free t-shirt courtesy of Tacoma South Sound Sports.
