Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC- An RBI single in the 10th inning by Anderson Feliz scored the winning run as the Charleston RiverDogs walked-off with a 5-4, 10 inning triumph over the Lakewood BlueClaws on Thursday night. The loss raised Charleston to a South Atlantic League best 18-7 and dropped Lakewood to 9-16.

The rally began with the RiverDogs trailing 4-3 and facing Lakewood's Mario Hollands (0-1). The inning started with a Tyler Austin walk and Gary Sanchez single. After both runners advanced on a wild pitch, Kelvin De Leon singled to tie the game. A groundout and an intentional walk followed and that brought up Feliz to provide the game-winning heroics.

The BlueClaws took the lead in the 10th against reliever Ben Paullus (1-0) after patiently waiting out three straight two-out walks and getting an RBI single by Carlos Perdomo. They could have had more in the inning, but Tyler Austin threw out a runner at the plate to end the inning, and keep the deficit at just one run.

The game was scoreless for the first five innings as both teams threatened but couldn't score. RiverDogs starter Will Oliver threw five scoreless innings, allowing five hits and walking one with three strikeouts in his best start so far this season. He escaped jams twice, leaving two men on in the 2nd and again in the fourth. Oliver's opponent, Colin Kleven, pitched equally as well, tossing six shutout innings and allowing just four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.

In the top of the sixth, Lakewood got on the board with two runs against Dan Mahoney. With two on and two outs, Harold Martinez singled to center to score one run and back-to-back walks forced in another run to make the score 2-0. Mariel Checo came on with two outs and the bases loaded and quickly induced a ground ball back to the mound to leave the bases full of BlueClaws.

A three-run seventh inning put the RiverDogs ahead for the first time in the game. Singles by Casey Stevenson and Reymond Nunez started the inning, then Feliz hit an RBI double. After a Ben Gamel ground out tied the game, Feliz scored on a throwing error by the catcher to make the score 3-2. Lakewood immediately tied the game in the eighth when Logan Moore doubled and scored on a throwing error.

The bottom of the order came through big time with the 7-8-9 hitters for Charleston collecting seven of the teams 11 hits. With the victory, the RiverDogs move to 2-0 in extra innings games in 2012. It was also their 2ndwalk off victory this season.

BALLPARK FUN: A Budweiser Thirsty Thursday brought fans out to Riley Park for $1 beers and food specials at the Ashley View Pub and DJ Natty Heavy kept the tunes flowing all night long. There were also final exam themed promotions for Final Exams at The Joe.

COMING UP: The third and final game of this series is Friday night with Lakewood starting LHP Lino Martinez (0-1, 6.75 ERA) and the Charleston starter is TBD. The RiverDogs are hosting Boy Scout Night with the Boy Scouts camping out on the field after the game. Fans who wear red to the game will receive $1 off their ticket at the box office on General Dynamics Land Systems Force Protection Red Shirt Friday. The night will finish with another Piggly Wiggly Postgame Fireworks show.
