Voyagers Game Recap
Helena, MT-The Voyagers allowed 10 runs on 10 hits in a difference-making 2nd inning and fell 11-5 to the Brewers Monday night at Kindrick Legion Field.
Despite the loss, Great Falls (25-32, 10-9) remains two games ahead of Billings for first place in the Pioneer League North Division. The Voyagers are now 7-5 this season against Helena. With the win, the Brewers (21-36, 6-13) stopped a six-game losing streak and ended the five-game winning streak for Great Falls.
Great Falls scored first for the fourth straight game against Helena. The Voyagers took a 1-0 lead in the 1st on back-to-back two-out doubles by Anthony Villa and Franklin Reyes. They plated another run in the 2nd on a one-out, solo home-run hammered deep to left-center by Nate Nolan. It was Nolan's fifth of the season.
The wheels came off in the home half of the 2nd as Helena sent 14 men to the plate. Gabriel Garcia led off the frame with a double. Jay Feliciano singled. A double off the wall in right from Payton Henry scored the first run. Nick Roscetti then game the Brewers a 3-2 lead with a two-run single lined into right-center. With one out, Antonio Pinero walked. Chad McClanahan tripled off the wall in deep right for two more runs and it was 5-2. Tristen Lutz had an RBI single. With two outs, Garcia smacked a two-run home run just over the wall in the left field corner. Feliciano kept the line moving with a single to center. Henry added his second double of the inning. Roscetti used an infield single and an error on the same play to bring in the final two runs.
The Brewers made it 11-to-2 with a run in the 4th. For the Voyagers, Nate Nolan clubbed his second home run of the night and sixth of the season in the top of the 9th for the game's final margin.
In his first start against Great Falls, Gabe Friese posted his first win. Friese (1-1) worked six innings and gave up two earned runs on three hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Friese retired 14 straight after allowing the 2nd inning homer. Chris Comito suffered the loss in his shortest outing of the season. Comito (2-6) lasted just one-and-two-thirds and surrendered eight runs on eight hits with one strikeout and one walk.
The Brewers outhit the Voyagers 17-to-7. Jay Feliciano went 4-for-4 with all singles. Payton Henry collected three doubles with two RBIs. Gabriel Garcia had two hits with a double and a homer. Nate Nolan had three hits (2 HR) and four RBIs for Great Falls. Great Falls returns home to face Billings for three starting Tuesday night. First pitch at Centene Stadium is scheduled for 7.
