Vishnevskiy Leads Stars Past Aeros 3-2 In Overtime

Cedar Park, TX - The Texas Stars (21-11-2-4, 48 points) defeated the Houston Aeros (18-15-5-1, 42 points) 3-2 in overtime on Tuesday night in front of 4,927 fans at Cedar Park Center. Texas defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy scored with 38 seconds left in overtime to lift the Stars over the Aeros. Stars forward Warren Peters started a three-goal Texas rally with a power-play goal in the first period. He also added an assist on the game-winning goal as the Stars ended a five-game winless skid (0-3-0-2). Texas Stars goalie Matt Climie (10-10-3) stopped 19 Houston shots in the team's 10th home win of the year. Texas forward Mathieu Beaudoin also scored in the victory, the Stars first win at home since Dec. 11. Aeros goalie Anton Khudobin (9-11-2) made 21 saves in the overtime loss. Texas will play in Abbotsford, BC at 9:30 pm (CST) against the Heat.

Houston moved in front with a pair of goals just over four minutes apart early in the first period. Aeros Captain Jon DiSalvatore opened the scoring at 4:08, netting his team-leading 14th goal of the year. DiSalvatore redirected a pass from defenseman Jaime Fraser for the 1-0 Houston lead. Forward Duncan Milroy made it 2-0 Houston at 8:30 of the opening period. Milroy potted his fifth goal of the year off a redirect in front of the Texas net, giving the Aeros a 2-0 lead. The Stars would trim the Aeros lead in half by the end of the first period. Center Warren Peters tipped Dan Jancevski's shot from the point at 15:15 for the score. Peter's 12th goal of the season came on the power-play and brought Texas within a goal at 2-1 after the first period of play.

Texas tied the game with a major power play late in the second period. Houston's Carson MacMillan was issued a match penalty after injuring Stars forward Mathieu Tousignant at 11:19 of the period. The Stars scored on the power play at 15:23, as Mathieu Beaudoin tallied his 10th goal of the year for the equalizer. Forwards Perttu Lindgren and Fabian Brunnstrom set up the Stars second goal night.

After a scoreless third period the two teams skated to overtime tied at two. Texas defenseman Ivan Vishnevskiy carried the puck to the Houston slot and beat Khudobin on the stick side for his fifth goal of the season and the game-winning goal in overtime. Texas forwards Fabian Brunnstrom and Warren Peters set up the goal at 4:21 of overtime for the 3-2 final.

The Stars travel to Abbotsford, BC for back-to-back road games on Friday, Jan. 8 and Saturday, Jan. 9. The Stars return home to host San Antonio at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, Jan. 12 at Cedar Park Center. The first 3,000 fans receive a Texas Stars Puck Bottle Opener. The Stars will also host the Toronto Marlies at 7:30 PM on Friday, Jan. 15, handing out Texas Stars Fleece Blankets to the first 2,000 fans. Also, fans will be able to purchase $2.00 domestic drafts and $1.00 hot dogs. All games can be heard on the Stars flagship station ESPNAustin 104.9 FM "The Horn" or ESPNAustin 1530-AM.
