Calgary Vipers News Release
The Calgary Vipers used an outstanding pitching performance from Erik Dessau to defeat the Tucson Toros 6-0 at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, Arizona. The second year Viper made his first start of the season and was brilliant throwing eight scoreless innings while only allowing three hits and not walking a batter. Along the way Dessau (1-0) recorded five strikeouts and also collected the first hit by a pitcher for the Snakes this season. With the victory the Vipers improve to 3-2 on the Golden Baseball League season and take the first of a three game series against the Toros.
At the plate Julio Ramirez led the charge by going two-for-three with a home run and two runs batted in. Calgary outhit Tucson 10-4 in the game which was the first meeting between these two clubs since they met in the 2009 Championship Series.
Daniel Buller came in for the ninth and helped preserve the shutout by throwing a scoreless frame.
The Vipers wrap up the season opening seven game road trip against the Toros on Monday May 24th and Tuesday May 25th both at 8:00 PM MDT.
Opening Day at Foothills Stadium is scheduled for Thursday May 27th at 7:00 PM MDT with the Strong Warriors of Maui, Hawaii making their first ever appearance in Calgary.
