Mississauga, CANADA, April 27, 2017 -Raptors 905 were crowned NBA D-League Champions after defeating Rio Grande Valley Vipers, NBA D-League affiliate of the Houston Rockets, by a score of 96-122.
Bruno Caboclo scored 31 points for Raptors 905 and had 11 rebounds. Fred VanVleet ended the night with 14 assists and 28 points. Troy Williams scored 23 points for the RGV Vipers.
The Raptors 905 ran away with the lead early in the game thanks to an 8-0 run. Bruno Caboclo scored 14 points in the opening quarter to help Raptors 905 obtain the 18-27 lead in the first quarter.
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers were able to close the gap in the second quarter. With 2:11 left in the first half, Troy Williams scored on a three-pointer to tie the game. Raptors 905 were able to steal the lead back to get the 49-57 lead at the break.
A huge third quarter performance for the Raptors 905 made all the difference. Raptors outscored the Vipers 33-20 in the third quarter with Caboclo scoring 10 of those points.
The Rio Grande Valley Vipers were not able to cut into the Raptors 905's lead in the final quarter of play. The Raptors 905 were crowned NBA D-League Champions after winning the best-of-three series.
