Vipers Halt Charge Winning Streak

The Canton Charge had their four-game winning streak halted by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 110-102, in overtime at the State Farm Arena on Friday night. Canton falls to 6-6 on the season and 0-2 in overtime contests, while Rio Grande Valley improves to 5-6 and takes the lone matchup of the season between the two teams.
Canton led 78-72 entering the fourth quarter that would see five lead changes and two ties. The turning point came with the Charge up 94-88 with 3:43 left, the Vipers went on a 9-0 run in 2:54 to take a 97-94 lead. A Kyle Gibson layup and a pair of Kyle Fogg free throws kept Rio Grande Valley up by three points, 99-96. The Charge stormed down the court, quickly worked the ball around and found an open Antoine Agudio in the corner to bury the tying three-pointer with 5.1 seconds left that sent the game into overtime. The Vipers outscored the Charge 11-3 in the extra period, holding Canton without a field goal, to secure the win.
Arinze Onuaku posted his seventh double-double of the season with 18 points, 16 rebounds and one block in 26 minutes. Micheal Eric had his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 13 boards in 23 minutes of relief off the bench. In his first start of the season, Travis Franklin had 17 points in 18 minutes, including 9-of-11 from the free-throw line and 4-of-8 from the field. The Charge attempted a season-high 96 field goals, hitting 34 of them for 35%. Canton committed a team season-high 33 personal fouls as both teams combined for 71 free-throw attempts.
The Vipers had six players score in double figures, paced by Tim Ohlbrecht's 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting with five rebounds and two blocks in 27 minutes from the center position. Fogg added 17 points, six rebounds, six assists and one block in 39 minutes. Mike Singletary scored 18 points with eight rebounds, one seal and one block in 39 minutes. Glen Rice poured in 11 points with seven rebounds, two steals and one block in just 13 minutes off of the bench. Each team had strong performances on the glass in the game, as both grabbed 53 rebounds.
The Charge will next head to Tulsa to face the 66ers tomorrow night, December 22nd at 8:00 p.m. Canton's next home game will be on December 26th at 7:00 p.m. at the Memorial Civic Center, where tickets between the baskets will go for $5 in honor of the Charge going for their 5th-straight home win.
