Vipers Fall to Suns in First Game of the New Year

Hidalgo, Texas - The NBA G League's Rio Grande Valley Vipers, affiliate of the Houston Rockets, could not complete the comeback and fell 108-113 to Northern Arizona Suns.

RGV's Monte Morris led both teams in scoring with 27 points; Morris also had 10 assists in the game. Xavier Silas was Northern Arizona's highest scorer with 25 points.

The first quarter ended up being instrumental for Northern Arizona Suns. The Suns were able to pull away from the Vipers thanks to Alec Peters who had 11 points in the opening quarter. RJ Hunter's 10 points helped Rio Grande Valley stay within distance of Northern Arizona.

The Suns held a 30-37 lead in the beginning of the second quarter. Tyler Lydon was able to tie the game with 4:23 thanks to an alley-oop. However, the Suns were able to regain their seven point lead as both teams headed to the locker rooms with the away team on top 67-60.

Both teams stayed at a stalemate in the third quarter after they each scored 25 points. The RGV Vipers kept cutting into the away team's lead in the fourth quarter. With 2:03 left in the game, Monte Morris scored a lay up to make it 108-109. Free-throws from Davon Reed and Xavier Silas sealed the game for the Suns.

The Rio Grande Valley Vipers can bounce back in 48 hours when they take on South Bay Lakers on Thursday, January 4 at home.
