Vipers Acquire Kennedy and Singletary from Erie

MCALLEN, Texas -- The NBA Development League Rio Grande Valley Vipers today announced that they have acquired DJ Kennedy and Mike Singletary from the Erie BayHawks in exchange for Terrel Harris, the rights to Mustafa Shakur, and Wesley Witherspoon.

Kennedy, a 6'6" guard/forward, was signed by the BayHawks as an open tryout participant. During the 2011-12 season, Kennedy averaged 15.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game as a rookie. Following the completion of the BayHawks season, he was signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers where he participated in two games. After the 2012-13 NBA season, Kennedy was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies and was released during training camp. Kennedy attended St. John's University where he averaged 10.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game during his senior season with the Red Storm. Kennedy also shot 36.4% from three and 45.6% from the field during his senior campaign.

Singletary returns to the RGV after a previous trade earlier this season. He was the Vipers' second pick of the third round of the 2012 NBA Development League Draft, Singletary, is a 6-6, 220 lb. forward from Texas Tech. The veteran played four seasons for the Red Raiders from 2007-2011, where he averaged 12.02 ppg. Singletary spent part of last season with the American Basketball Association's South Carolina Warriors, and also spent time playing with several teams throughout Europe.

Rio Grande Valley fans will be able to watch Kennedy and Singletary live when the Vipers host the Iowa Energy tonight at State Farm Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game can be watched for free and live on the NBA Development League YouTube Channel. Fans can also listen live on FOX Sports 1700 AM with the iHeartRadio app.
