Vince Mazzaro Wins 2nd Consecutive PCL Pitcher of the Week Honors

West Sacramento, Calif. - Sacramento River Cats starting pitcher Vince Mazzaro was named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for the week of May 18 - May 24, league officials announced Tuesday. This was the second consecutive Pitcher-of-the-Week Award for Mazzaro, the first time a player has won back-to-back honors in the PCL this season.

The 22-year-old right-hander made one start during the week, throwing 8.0 shutout innings in a no-decision against the Omaha Royals on May 22nd. Mazzaro allowed only 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 6 in a game the Cats eventually won in 12 innings. Overall for the season, Mazzaro is 1-2 with a 2.66 ERA, tops amongst Cats starters and fifth-best in the PCL.

Mazzaro, a native of Hackensack, New Jersey, is in his fourth professional season and his second with the River Cats. Mazzaro was drafted by the A\'s in the 3rd round of the 2005 Amateur Draft and was ranked by Baseball America this offseason as the 8th best prospect in the Oakland organization.
