Vinc Named Defensive Player of the Week

April 3, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release

Rochester goaltender Matt Vinc was named the National Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Week for Week #13 after a strong performance against Toronto last Saturday.

Goaltending was the theme of the 12-8 victory over the Rock on March 30th. "Vno" backstopped the Knighthawks to the win on the same night that former goaltender Pat O'Toole was inducted into the Knighthawks Hall of Fame.

Vinc deflected 47 of the 55 shots he faced for a .855 save percentage. He held the Rock scoreless during the first quarter. The eight goals scored were the fewest for Toronto since scoring seven in a loss to Philadelphia on January 19th.

"Vinc is the backbone (to our team)," said Rochester Head Coach Mike Hasen. "He's the guy who saves our bacon when we make mistakes. He's been playing really good this year throughout. We need him to continue it."

The St. Catharines, Ontario native is being recognized for the third time this season. He was also named the Defensive Player of the Week after Rochester's two contests against the Washington Stealth in Week #1 and Week #5, making 51 and 42 saves respectively. He currently leads the league with a 9.98 goals-against average and a .808 save percentage.

The Knighthawks will host the Philadelphia Wings in their regular season home finale on Native American Heritage Night on Saturday, April 6th at 6:00 p.m. The game will be the NLL's first CBS Sports Network broadcast of the season (DirecTV channel 613, Dish Network channel 158, Time Warner Cable channels 232 and 1027). The game can also be heard on Sportsradio 950 ESPN and on www.sportsradio950espn.com.
